South Carolina Poker Bill passes Subcommittee

February 28, 2007
The Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act of 2006 made it challenging for US players to find a game of poker. However, that difficulty may soon be coming to an end for residents of Charleston, South Carolina.

State Rep. Wallace Scarborough has been pushing a bill that would legalize small, social games of poker. These are the games of coffee tables, kitchens and basements in which the house doesn’t take a cut (or rake.) Under current law, such games are illegal. The bill has already passed a subcommittee and is expected to go to a full Judiciary Committee soon.

There is a complex and rocky legal landscape regarding poker in the United States. Fans of the game will find this news encouraging, underlining the fact that there are many who support poker and are actively working towards obtaining legal status for the game at all venues, on and offline.
