Night and Day Difference in Online Poker

August 18, 2006

Playing poker online is a popular past time of people all over the globe. Anyone with a computer and internet connection can log on to one of the many internet poker sites and play their favorite games for a few minutes, or for a few hours. Different levels of play allow amateurs and professionals an opportunity for action.

If you play poker online, you many have noticed a contrast in the way your opponents play at various times of the day. In the morning hours, the games tend to have a fast pace with little chat. Betting others off a pot is generally easier; therefore you won't see as many bad beats. Perhaps people are playing at work and not concentrating on the game.

The evening hours have a tendency to be more manic. It's difficult to bet opponents out of pots, especially when they are holding hands that shouldn't have called the blinds. Bad beats seem to be the norm. Chat is chattier, but the pace of the game slows down.

At night, chat is more pertinent to the game, but again the pace changes. It's not as slow as the evening, but not quite as fast as daytime. The tables become a little more serious and challenging. Of course, there are always exceptions to the norm.

Many factors influence the flow of the game: experience of other players, poker site, location of you and your opponents, type of game or the level at which you play. Weekend games become the melting pot of all types of players. If you find it difficult to consistently win at certain times of the day, try playing the same level at other times. If the outcome is still undesirable, try a lower limit than what you have played previously.

These observations are general at best. To truly adapt to the online environment play tournaments, sit and go's and ring games at different times of the day. It will take a lot of skill, experience and perhaps a little luck to be proficient at the tables all of the time, but by experimenting you will distinguish the most profitable time for you to win consistently.

It doesn't matter if you're a day or night player, you can play online at anytime. So, pull up a chair, log on and choose your game.
