NBC is ready to cash-in on the poker and gaming boom. It has announced a new poker show that will debut on January 2nd, 2007 at 2am, ET. The show is called "Poker After Dark," and fitting in with its timeslot, will be aimed squarely at the late-night poker fan. The show is scheduled to run nightly, six nights a week, and last for an hour. It will also be hosted by former host of the World Poker Tour, Shana Hiatt. The format of the show is quite simple. Six poker professionals will meet up at NBC's poker table for a winner-take-all, $120,000 first-place prize. One game lasts all week, meaning each episode will be offer a close-up and detailed account of the action, with the winning hands being shown on the Friday night. Saturday is a re-cap, hosted by Shana Hiatt and whoever the winner of that particular week was, who will be offering commentary and tips about how they played certain hands and what strategy they used within the game. NBC's poker tables themselves will be set in various Vegas casinos. The show is to have a back-room feel to it, like the home games that many poker players cut their teeth on. "Poker After Dark" should provide poker fans from around the world with an inside look at poker games played by the pros. The show is also proof that poker has muscled its way into mainstream television. A small list of pros that are to be included is Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harman and Gus Hansen. Looking to play online poker versus poker pros?
