Hoia Pham Wins First WSOP Gold Bracelet of 2010
43-year old Vietnamese poker dealer, Hoia Pham is one of the many WSOP gold bracelet winners from Southeast Asia. He won Event #1: Casino Employees Championship, from which he collected $71,424 for first place. 721 players entered the $500 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em Casino Employees Championship, which amounted to a $324,450 total prize pool. 72 top finishers collected prize money.
Pham weeded his way to the championship relatively challenge-free. Pham appeared very fortunate early in the competition when on Day One he risked almost all of his chips with QJ after flopping a Jack. His opponent had pocket aces. Pham caught a queen on the turn to make two pairs – winning the hand. From that point, he was on a comfortable streak.
The final came when Pham was dealt AcAd, while his opponent Vea was dealt 4s4c. After the flop came Qh7d2c, Pham went all-in and Vea made a call after a long deliberation. The board gave 5d6c, making Pham victorious with pocket aces.
Pham stated he was lucky to be dealt several big hands. He was dealt pocket kings 8 times and poket aces about 12 times during the duration of the tournament. The final table lasted 4 hours and 50 minutes.
