The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was passed by the United States House of Representatives in July in a landslide decision. There were 317 “yes” votes to 93 “no” votes. Now, the Senate has returned from a three week recess and may discuss the bill. They are deciding the fate of every American’s freedom to gamble online. Were the Senate to approve the bill, it would mean Online Poker would be outlawed, along with sports betting, online blackjack and any other games of chance that could be bet upon.
The Poker Players Alliance, as well as Pocket Fives (an internet community) have teamed up to fight the bill. They intend to do so using their phones.
On Tuesday, September 12th, 2006, any and all concerned online poker players and gamblers can take the fight into their own hands. From 9.00am EST to 5.30pm EST, a call to 800-289-1136 will enter you into an automated system that asks you for your zip code. With that knowledge, the system will automatically place a call to your appropriate Senator’s office.
Pocket Fives President, Cal Spears says “This is an easy way to send a message. If everyone voices their disapproval for this legislation on the same day, we will send a clear signal to the Senate that America does not support banning internet gambling and online poker.” View Hollywood Poker's online poker promotions to find a bonus right for you!
