President George W. Bush has signed the Port Security Bill into law. The bill also contained the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which is now law as well. The President commented on the bill as he signed it, stating "We’re going to protect our ports. We’re going to defend this homeland, and we’re going to win this war on terror." However, President Bush did not comment on the anti-gaming legislation that was attached to the port security bill, instead focusing his comments on matters pertaining directly to the Port Security elements of the bill. This has disappointed many poker fans, who were interested to hear what President Bush would have to say about online gambling and poker. Several leading poker sites that used to allow U.S. gamers to play at their tables are down for "maintenance." One might make the prediction that when these sites come back up, they will no longer be accepting U.S. players. There will most certainly be developments to this story as the financial institutions the law affects now have 270 days to implement measures that enforce the law.
