Russ “Dutch” Boyd wins the $2,500 buy-in Six-Handed Limit Hold'em tournament at the 2010 World Series of Poker. This is his second gold bracelet victory in his career. He went home with poker money amounting to $234,065.
Second place went to Brian Meinders who was in command on the final table, holding what seemed to be an unbeatable 4-to-1 chip lead. Boyd fought back with tenacity and won one of his biggest victories in his almost decade-long poker career. The competition drew 384 players, 36 finishers of which collected prize money. Former gold bracelet winners, Alexander Borteh (15th) and Rafe Furst (16th) also cashed in this event.
Boyd's first victory dates back in 2006 when he won the most-watched Six-Handed match in poker history. He defeated Joe Hachem, then WSOP Main Event champion, in a challenging heads-up final. Official records show Boyd has two wins, six final table appearances, and 18 in-the-money finishes at the WSOP. His total WSOP poker money earnings amount to $1,225,624.
29-year old Boyd hails from Columbia, MO. He now lives in Las Vegas to make use of his prodigal talent and pursue his poker career. He graduated from high school four years ahead and by 18 he earned a college degree from University of Missouri. He was influenced by Matt Damon's 1998 movie, “Rounders” and has been around the poker scene for eight years. He said he has read just about every poker book published and mentioned Gus Hansen's Every Hand Revealed” as the book that helped him the most.
