HollywoodPoker.com (http://www.hollywoodpoker.com) congratulates Alessio Isaia, the first Italian to win a major World Poker Tour title. Isaia topped 523 poker players at the WPT Venice held at the Casino di Venezia, the oldest casino in the world.
Isaia won over his Hungarian opponent, Szabolcs Mayer, in the final heads-up play for the EUR 380,000 first place prize. Mayer started out ahead of the game but after a lot of twists, Isaia made a strong comeback to put Mayer out in second place for EUR 228,990. The final play took eight hours and 20 minutes, the longest in WPT's history. Isaia also took home a $25,500 seat to the WPT World Championship plus a Tiffany bracelet.
Isaia says he's very happy because he's been trying to win big poker tournaments for three or four years already. He came close in the European Poker Tournament but failed to achieve it. He said he's happier to win in Italy, his home country, and that it makes the win even more special.
