I’m brand spanking new to the site (hooked when I heard about the awesome deposit bonuses) and I’m totally enjoying my time here at Hollywood Poker.
In fact, I’m relatively new to the world of online poker in general – though I did have a short and unsuccessful stint at another poker site. While rifling through my girlfriend’s e-mail will she was at work (sorry honey!), I came across the Extra, saw the deposit bonuses, signed up and the rest is history. I’ve heard great things about the Michael Woods Celebrity Invitational and can’t wait to play. Bounties, bounties, bounties! I spent a lot of my misspent youth gazing slack-jawed at action movies and the life of a head hunter has appealed to me since then. Given that I work as a freelance painter in Cleveland and currently lead a whimsical existence just above the poverty line, I don’t see this happening anytime soon – and as my mother readily points out, it’s my imagination that got me into this mess in the first place. I should have listened to my 9th grade guidance counselor who advised me to put my imagination to good use and become a psychiatrist.
[Quick flashback to last Saturday night when I suggested that my sister get over her divorce by joining a book club and losing 40lbs.]
Yeah, maybe not. I think the life of the reclusive painter suits me – or at least saves me from being beaten to death by angry patients.
Back to poker though, I’m hoping to meet some of you on the site soon. I promise I’ll try to keep my mouth shut!
Cheers! ~IB4E1979

Write to Win: Your best bluff ever!
The "bluff" is why I play poker. You see, I'm the guy who bluffed his way through high-school, college, on to jobs, into women's beds, backstage to Def Leopard concerts, into bars under-age, and out of speeding tickets to name a few. I'm 33 now, and it has all really amounted to nothing more than a guy who has lived his life completely full of s#!+.
The luxury of the bluff, only exists for me at a poker table now. In the name of justice and equality, I always had the reputation of being a bully’s bully. I find that the easiest person to bluff, is the person who is trying to bluff you. I take pleasure in bluffing the money out of those who are trying to earn it based on some self -perceived psychological prowess that they think they are exercising over the table. Fact is, the only bluff they are pulling, is really on themselves.
My best bluff ever? Who knows. They all have the same impact on me. It has never been about the money, so the size of my bluffed pots are not even relevant. I'm just looking to stick it to someone personally who is trying to stick it to others. Poker is my revenge on those who like to push people around. Yes - I get pushed around as well, but when I get to do it, it all seems worth it. I must say though, that I'm taking my lumps right now, martyrdom hurts. Perhaps one day I will wise up and champion a cause that is actually worth something. Maybe I'll join the Peace Corp, or perhaps Green Peace or something...nah, I'll just keep playing poker. After all, my best bluff ever seems to be the bluff I'm running on myself that justifies my poker playing.

This week’s topic: Poker: A winter sport.

Vince Van Patten's Corner
Things never slow down poker-wise during the holiday season. The game I love always seems to creep in no matter what. I can remember about 10 years ago, I was playing poker a lot; about three or four nights a week. One time, we started playing poker the night before Thanksgiving, as a sort of pre-holiday game. Needless to say, the game lasted two and a half days and I didn’t make it to Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone understood – it was a really good win for me! I guess that just goes to show the ludic behavior characteristic of poker players at any given time.
This said, later on in the holiday season I do try to slow things down a bit. I think it’s important to take time to remember how fortunate we are to have what we do, like the luxury of playing online poker and for many of us, the luxury of living in a great country like the USA.
