Lucky Dollar: New & Improved!
The payout structure in the Lucky Dollar tournament has just been improved, making now is the perfect time to throw all your cards on the table and cash-in with real money play. Just recently, the Lucky Dollar payout structure was changed to a flat prize pool with 200 hundred players ending up in the money. This means there is a 1 in 10 chance you’ll walk away a winner. The perks don’t end there though: the buy-in is only $1 and we’ve added $2,500 to the already profitable prize pool. The odds are definitely in your favor, so join us every Saturday at 3pm EST to make the most out of a dollar!

Woods brothers hit the tables at Foxwoods!
Wondering what your favorite sibling poker duo has been up to? Read Michael Woods’ account of his adventures with James at Foxwoods!
The adventure begins:
Jimmy and I drive up to that bastion to gambling, the biggest casino in the world, Foxwoods. We're here for the different WPT events and can't wait to play. I myself have been playing on Hollywood Poker mostly, so I'm a bit worried about my live game. Jimmy, on the other hand, has been playing both live and online and is itching to go.
We head into the beautiful lobby and make our way upstairs to the Poker Room. It’s a spacious room crammed with poker players and heads turn as we walk in - not for me but for Jimmy, who though he's an Oscar nominated actor is now being hailed as a great poker player. We walk through and whispers of, "Look, James Woods" follow in our wake. We go to register and find out the events are downstairs in the Sunset Ballroom, right where they were last year.
Down we go.
First event for us is the WPT Shootout. The prize pool is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. I'm getting nervous already. First round is 10 players to a table and you must win your table to advance. I take my table, Jimmy takes his and away we go. As I'm playing I'm watching across the room, checking Jimmy's table making sure he's still in. I'm wearing my Hollywood Poker shirt so every once in awhile someone comes up and says, "Hey, love the site" etc. Funniest incident involves a guy who comes up and says to me, "Do you ever play in the Michael Woods Celebrity Invitational on Hollywood Poker?"
“Play it?” I said. “I am Michael Woods”.
I had to produce my ID to prove it, but then I was warmly greeted by folks who play regularly in the Michael Woods Celebrity Invitational. There were lots of Hollywood Poker players there.
Well, after about 2 hours of grueling, hard fought poker, I find myself head to head and out stacked by about 4-1. Blinds are huge, my stack is dwindling, I decide I need to make a move. I look down and I've been dealt a pocket pair of tens. My opponent raises $1500 and I go all-in. He smiles and turns over a pair of 9's. I smile right back and toss down my 10's.
He says, "Ok looks like you're right back in this".
Of course, I hardily agree as we prepare for the flop. First card out is a 9. Need I say more? I stand, shake hands and wish him luck in tomorrow’s event. I walk to Jimmy's table and he's also heads up. Both are all-in. Jimmy shows an A,Q and his opponent an A,3. Flop is A,3,3. The Woods boys go down in flames - on that day.
Two days later we're there to play a few single table tournaments to practice up for the big No-Limit Hold’em tourney coming up. We also want to play some satellites to maybe get a ticket for less than the entry fee. We play a couple of $500 games, buy in is $55. Jimmy finishes 2nd in both. I'm 3rd and 4th.
Jimmy says it's time to move up and play for higher stakes so we move on to the $1000 tables. I'm thinking that maybe I should stay at the $500 but Jimmy pushes me to play. One by one, the players are dropping, Jimmy and I are battling too. He beats my 3,3 with a pair of jacks. I take his A,Q down with an A,K. Back and forth we go until there's no one left but Jimmy and I. My stack is bigger so we chop the pot and I'm declared the winner.
Next we move on to the $2000 table. As we're playing, we find out one of the guys playing is FriarGAC from Hollywood Poker! So of course we wish him luck and off we go. After about an hour or so, who's left? Jimmy, myself and FriarGAC! Jimmy and I are pretty even, but Friar is way short-stacked, so Jimmy says to me, "Ok to chop the pot and give Friar enough to get into the big No-Limit Hold’em event?"
I say, “Whatever you like” and that's what we did. We three split the pot and everyone was happy. By this time we had quite a crowd watching us play as word had spread that James Woods was playing and I was too. There were many Hollywood Poker players watching. FriarGAC got a taste of the Michael Woods Celebrity Invitational in reverse though, stuck between Jimmy and I. Jimmy signed a few autographs and we took pictures with Friar which will be posted. A fun day at Foxwoods - left richer in friends and money! Next up is the first No-Limit Hold’em event.
To be continued...
Stay tuned! There’s more to come about James’ and Michael’s exploits!

Player Spotlight: Dottie_Danger!
I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t made much of a name for myself since I joined Hollywood Poker. I’m even more ashamed to admit that I joined almost a year ago and I play almost every day! But what can I say? I love poker and I love Hollywood Poker!
Presently, I’m working as a parole officer in NJ and believe it or not, it’s my dream job. I’ve always liked witnessing reform – or not, in some cases. Regardless, I get to meet interesting people and interesting people get to meet me - though under the circumstances, I don’t know if they enjoy our little meetings as much as I do. Aside from work, I enjoy poker (obviously), ball-hockey, rock-climbing, theatre and baking incredibly fattening deserts I never plan to eat. This is where my boyfriend comes in handy. What can I say? I’m a lucky lady.
Well, sometimes. Especially at the tables. I usually can’t put the time into tournament play, so I’m a fan of Sit’n’Go’s, though as of late, my time to play has been dwindling. I just adopted a Great Dane. Not only is she my first dog ever, but I feel like I live with a horse. In retrospect, a smaller dog may have been the more reasonable way to go. Wouldn’t trade her for the world though!
Love Hollywood Poker, love the fantastic support staff and I can’t wait to play in the WPT Bellagio Celebrity Shootout!
‘Til then!

Write to Win: Open Season!
Quieting Mr. Obnoxious
Bobby Riggs is best known for his “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match, which he lost to Billie Jean King. But long before that, Bobby had been successful in tennis, gambling, and promoting.
In 1939 he bet $1000 dollars with a London bookmaker that he would win the men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles at Wimbledon. He got 100-1 odds and collected $100,000 when he accomplished the amazing triple win.
In the 40’s and 50’s he played professional tennis. This consisted of 4-6 top pros barnstorming the country and playing exhibitions. Matches were often played at country clubs where the pros would socialize with the wealthy members before and after the exhibition. Bobby would often end up playing one or more club-members in a tennis match for a sizable wager. Bobby would handicap himself by putting as many as six chairs on his side of the court, leashing a dog to his leg, playing in a fur coat, or in some other negotiated manner. The challengers’ egos often caused them to overestimate their tennis talents. Bobby rarely lost a match.
As a college tennis player and a poker enthusiast, I always found Riggs to be a fascinating character. But I was pleasantly surprised to be able to use a famous “Riggsian” proposition on a holiday weekend at the poker table in Las Vegas. Let me elaborate.
I was playing in a hold’em game at the Mirage Casino with a man on vacation from New Jersey. He was one of those people who build up their own ego by bragging about their accomplishments and criticizing others. He’d read all the poker books. He was just a fair player who thought he was great. In his mid-thirties, he had also taken up tennis the last few years. When Mr. Obnoxious wasn’t telling everyone how to play poker, he was bragging about his tennis exploits. His conversation was boring, but worse, his criticisms tended to intimidate and run-off the weaker players in the game. After playing with and listening to him for 5-6 hours on Saturday, I was happy to quit and go out for a social evening.
On Sunday I was in a particularly good game when, sure enough, Mr. “O” sat down. He was quickly up to his old tricks. Within an hour, he had criticized most players in the game and expanded on his tennis exploits non-stop. I was fed up and just about to leave when Mr. “O” saw fit to criticize my play after I had lost a big pot. That was it! I told him his exaggerated opinion of his poker play was only exceeded by his exaggerated opinion of his tennis abilities. To prove the point, I would play him a set of tennis right then. I would spot him a lead of five games and love-40 with me serving. I would bet Mr. “O” $ 500 that he would not get two or more points the rest of the set.
Everyone sat in stunned silence. Then several of the players who had witnessed his antics the past two days, gave Mr. “O” the needle. They insisted that he put up or shut up. Then Mr. “O” spoke, “Let me get this straight, I have to get two points or more, but I do not have to win the set.” I confirmed the proposition. He said, “Let’s go. It’s a bet.” We agreed to meet at the tennis courts with $500 apiece.
Ten minutes later Mr. “O”, several curious players from the poker game, and I arrived at the courts. One of the players agreed to hold the bet and give the $1000 to the winner. We warmed up. Mr. “O” seemed a little surprised with the quality of my play, but still appeared confident since he only had to win two points.
I prepared to serve the first point of the match-- behind 0-5 and love-40. My first serve was hard, but considerably wide. Mr. ”O” smiled as he called “fault.” My second serve hit the middle of the net--the match was over! I started walking toward the net, smiling, and with my hand extended. Mr. “O”’s smile faded as he realized he had won the match but lost the bet by winning only one point.
He ignored my hand and began yelling that he had been hustled and that the match was “rigged”. But the players from the game agreed that I had won the bet.
After some loud whining from Mr. O and a great deal of laughter from everyone else, I offered to let Mr. obnoxious keep his $500 if and only if he would agree to never again play in a game that I was in. He accepted the offer, grabbed his money, and left.
I couldn’t help smiling as I thought to myself that Mr. O almost had it right--the match was “Riggs-ed”.

Vince Van Patten's Corner: Hollywood Poker's Birthday Bash
Our 1st anniversary party was even better than expected. The celebrity turnout was incredible, the red carpet was packed and the massive number of people from the public who turned up just goes to show how much Hollywood Poker has grown in just a year.
Giving the checks from the Hurricane Relief Tournaments over to the charities was definitely a high point in the evening. As I said at the party on Wednesday night, Hollywood Poker’s main goal is to be the #1 poker site for charitable contributions. Our relief efforts so far are proof that this can happen.
All in all, it was a tremendous night and I was thrilled to be there!
