I've been at Hollywood Poker for several months now and I can't tell you how much this great group of people has made me feel at home, from the regulars to the support staff.
My first experience with poker started about 20+ years ago in Reno NV playing 7 Card Stud. I lived in Northern California, so a few times a year we would venture over the hill to Reno or Tahoe to do a bit of gambling. I soon found that Blackjack or Slots bored me crazy, but I found my love of cards at the poker tables.
Over the years I just played 7 Card, but 2 years ago, my family moved to Las Vegas. Well needless to say, when you live here you have lots of visitors. My father in law became interested in Texas Hold’em, so I would take him downtown to play. He preferred playing at Binions Horseshoe so that is where I first was introduced to Texas Hold’em. I loved it!
Soon after that I decided to check out online poker. I use a Mac and so I found that most sites didn't support Mac until I ran across Hollywood Poker. Well, from the first day I knew this was the place for me. I really enjoy interacting with people online and missed online chat. You see, I had done a lot of online chatting for years and then when I moved to Las Vegas, I really hadn’t made too many friends. It was nice to make some new friends online. I started chatting online about ten years ago and ended up meeting a great guy named Tom. After about 1 year we got engaged and married March of 1998. Back then it was unusual to meet people from online and everyone including my family thought I was nuts. Now, they all love him as much as I do. I really hit the jackpot meeting Tom.
Speaking of online friends, I met Tuffgurl just this last week in Vegas. We were both playing in a Sit N Go game and discovered we both live in Vegas.
Tuff and I met for lunch, then of course, some poker. We both had wanted to see the poker room at Green Valley Ranch - a really nice Casino in Henderson that’s just next door to Vegas. It was so great to finally meet my first Hollywood Poker friend. She is a great gal and we both had a blast talking about poker and our experiences at Hollywood Poker.
I hope to meet more people from Hollywood Poker and want to thank Hollywood Poker for having such a great site!

Poker Etiquette
Did you every notice how 52 flat, paper like objects can turn loving, caring, gentle individuals into raving lunatics or, how seemingly harmless, friendly cartoon like characters can change from images on a computer screen into hostile enemies battling it out on the front line? If you don’t know what I am speaking of then you obviously never played online poker.
Like the popularity of poker, poor sportsmanship has spread like the plague. And although I am ashamed to admit it, I have not been immune to this pesky epidemic. I think everyone who has parked themselves in front of their computer to play a few rounds of poker has found themselves face to face with their evil twin.
Paranoia, judgment and ridicule all sneak their ugly heads out when things don’t go according to plan at the poker table. We’ve all been there. The cards just don’t seem to come some nights and we feel persecuted. Or we are out played by a check raise and feel victimized by our opponent as if they have some personal vendetta against us. And then it starts: the name-calling. It doesn’t take long to realize that at the poker table, it only takes one thing to make someone a moron, and that is your chips in their stack!
One night, after a string of bad beats and the expansion of my vocabulary to include an inordinate amount of adjectives, I recognized it was time to take a step back. And then it hit me! I only get to play my cards! Wow! Really? Was it really that simple? Yes! From that night forward, I really started to enjoy poker and the people that I play with. I can’t say that I have never again felt a little steam rising after someone chased down their winning hand, but it is then I fall back on what my mother taught me a long time ago – “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all!”

Vince Van Patten’s Corner: On the run!
Things have been super busy for me lately. Right now I’m filming the WPT in Atlantic City. We’re getting down to the final bit and let me tell you, the prize pool is huge! There aren’t that many players left, so things are getting really exciting. It’s so great to see poker in general take off like it has!
On a personal note, I just went for a fantastic run along the board walk and jumped into the ocean. Atlantic City is great for doing that kind of thing. There’s all this fresh air and great weather!
I have to run (again), so I’ll talk to you all again next week!
