Words from Vince Van Patten, WPT Host & Commentator
One of the reasons poker is such a great game is because it's so wide open – I'm convinced anyone can win. That's the beauty of it: Anyone can become a star if they get lucky.

Player Spotlight: Meet the Zonker!
For those who haven't read my new member post in the 'Green Room', "the zonker" refers to Zonker Harris, of Doonesbury fame. I have played poker for many years, you know the weekly beer drinking fun variety. I have played on Hollywood Poker for almost two years now, and have seen some of you fellow poker players here almost every time I log on. I often wonder how it is that someone can have that much free time to spend on the computer, so I will tell you how it is that I do. A little over 8 years ago, I "fubar'd" myself. Somehow I had a "falling out" with a giant fir tree-- from about 30' up as near as anyone could tell-- and landed on my head. I can't say exactly how it happened as no one witnessed it, and I thankfully have no memory whatsoever about the incident, but I will go "out on a limb" (I got a million of 'em) and say that I very probably overlooked same basic safety protocols normally observed when up in a tree with a chainsaw.
My next conscience memory was waking up a week later in the ICU at our closest trauma center. After another three weeks in ICU, followed by another three months in rehab, I came home to a very different lifestyle than the one that I left with. As I am sure you can imagine, I now have a certain degree of mobility impairment. I now have a lot of time to spend on the computer, and can't imagine how I would get by without it, for both work and poker. For me, one of the great things about poker is that everybody is sitting at a table to do it, just like me. Equal ground. I still play in our regular weekly live game.
The passing of our friend Michael Woods has brought out a lot of sentiment here in the boards. Like most here, I only knew him online, never met in person, but yet he was a friend. The internet is a strange thing, the way people are able to connect without being in physical contact. Like anywhere in life, this site has its share of pin-headed goobers playing, whining, and being general pains, but there are also a lot of good people as well. People who are also good poker players, who know that suck-outs and bad beats are part of poker--both online and off--not some Hollywood Poker conspiracy to cheat them out of $5, and who know that some days you just play better than others.
For some reason, a lot of the good ones seem to end up at the Al N Smithee tourney, which I hope to play more of. Maybe I'll see you there. I'll be the one with the headphones on, probably listening to The Floyd.
If I seem to be playing erratically, I blame it on my daily medications, often chased by a beer and a bowl.
'Nuff said.
~Zonker

Write to Win
Express your creativity by entering Hollywood Poker's popular Write to Win contest. If your entry is chosen as a finalist, you could win a tournament ticket to one of Hollywood Poker's Celebrity Tournaments.
All you have to do is write about anything poker related and send it to hollay@hollywoodpoker.com. I’ll post all articles that qualify in the ‘Center Stage’ section of the Lounge where your fellow players will vote for their favorite article. Aside from the prestige and praise you’ll receive for your rhetorical brilliance, if you win you’ll also score a Hollywood Poker tournament ticket. It gets even better: Every week, one random voter will win Hollywood Poker gear.
