Hollywood Hills: It's here!

It’s not merely the site itself that makes Hollywood Poker remarkable. The celebrities, members and HP staff all come together to make Hollywood Poker the hottest, the hippest and the most Hollywood online poker site on the net. In a dog eat dog world, Hollywood Poker is one of the only places that really is about fun and games.

You already know some of the faces at Hollywood Poker, but you probably don’t know about the insidious power struggles that rage behind the scenes. Every week, the gripping saga, Hollywood Hills, will provide you with an uncensored look at the battle between good and evil, right and wrong, big and small blind and this week...

Julie and the coffee maker!

It was a dreary Monday morning when Hollywood Poker’s very own Player Manager, Julie, stumbled bleary-eyed into the office. During her camping trip over the weekend, she’d lost a heroic tussle with a tent-pole, a cooler and an irate legion of mosquitoes.

Oh yes: Julie was not a happy camper.

So, when Hollywood Poker’s senior Player Manager, Mike, walked into the lunchroom and found Julie head butting the coffee maker, he was quick to warn the rest of the HP crew to avoid the writhing Julie. Developers and programmers were sent scurrying under desks and behind potted plants as Julie raged to her office, all the while muttering curses at the ill-fated coffee maker and the one mutant mosquito that had caused her eye to swell shut.

But troublesome insects and stubborn coffee makers aside, Julie was a professional and there was a job to be done.

Settling in at her desk and reviewing the e-mails she had received over her unfortunate weekend, a particular e-mail caught her one functioning eye.

Hi Julie!

I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy playing poker on your site. I played in the Michael Woods Invitational last week and had a fantastic time playing with veteran players and celebrities. It was my first time in a Hollywood Poker tournament and I was amazed by the great sense of community between players and HP staff.

Even though I was knocked out early on, the friendly chat kept me in the lobby, cheering other players on and watching the action until the very end.

You guys rock! I can’t wait until next week!

Julie sat back in her chair just as the ever-considerate Mike pushed a cup of fresh coffee through her office door with a pole.

“It’s ok, Mike”, she assured him. “The rage inside has ceased”.

That’s right friends – just as the vision in her right eye began to return, she saw that she was safe after the camping debacle and back in the warm embrace of Hollywood Poker.

Stay tuned for next week for the next episode of Hollywood Hills when you decide if:

a) Mike invites Hollywood Poker’s Editor, Hollay to his weekly poker game and a surprise player shows up.
b) Players devise new and creative terms for smack-talking and soon their innovative dialect takes over the online poker world.
c) Two HP members arrange an in-person rendez-vous. Romance ensues...

In this week's Spotlight: StLouisGirl!

My player name is StLouisGirl. I’ll leave it to you to guess where I’m from!

I have been playing online poker for just under a year and have had plenty of ups and downs.  Tournament wins, free trips, prizes and bad beats galore - you name it, I’ve had it.  With a background in accounting, I may take just a little too long to think about betting.  My hubby says that I over-analyze everything.  So be patient when you play with me.

I’ve just came back from Vegas.  I went to watch the WSOP.  Next year, maybe I’ll be able to play.  It’s not like I didn’t try to win a seat!  Sigh.

The WSOP was very exciting and almost had a carnival atmosphere.  I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. James Woods while there and I must say that he is certainly very friendly and personal.  It turns out that he is from a little town very near to us and we had a nice chat!

Aloha Fellow Poker Pal's,

I was born and raised in the State of Hawaii on the Island of Kauai and I have to admit, I was pretty lucky.

I grew up with an ideal that the world and all people in it were good and honest. Well, as I grew up I came to understand that my belief system might not be too correct. Even so, I still choose to look at the good in people and not all that might not be perfect.

I later married and had three of the most beautiful children God ever put on this earth and they were my life, my inspiration and my soul. When my children were 13, 9 and 2 they were taken from me in a drunk driving car accident with their father who at that time was my ex-husband. My ex was driving and was also the one who was drinking.

After that loss, I became very angry and that old feeling of the world being a bad place all came rushing back to me almost over night. I went to bed and stayed there for almost one year. It was about that time that I came across an online poker site and I began to play. Threw that site I formed a friendship with a girl and we started emailing one another. It was because of her that I made the choice to get out of bed and live for my children so they would always be remembered. So I guess in a way poker saved my life and now it is my most favorite way to spend my free time. Until I found that poker site I had pushed everyone and everything out of my life and all I wanted was to die. One day I found myself looking forward to playing poker and I had not looked forward to anything in a long time.

Here I am 6 years later and I have a life that I never thought I would find again or even want. I still play poker everyday and I love it more and more each time I play.

I am glad to be apart of the Hollywood Poker Family!

Vince Van Patten’s Corner: Do tell!

Being able to read tells is a lucrative quality to have when you’re playing poker –but there’s also a technique to use when you detect them. If you catch a tell don’t act on it immediately. If you do and the next time that guy thinks: ‘Hey what did he get on me? Oh! That was it! I acted too scared’- or this and that, then there’s a good chance he’ll change his tell. It’s very, very important that when you get the tell and you get a hunch that you think you’re on to it that you don’t act right away. Take 10 seconds or 15 or 20 seconds to deliberate so they don’t catch on to you catching on to the tell.

A lot of good players have tells. James Woods definitely has one. He has one major one. I destroyed him on that. I won’t tell it because, you know, it wouldn’t be too profitable to let other people know!
