HollywoodPoker.com shines at the WSOP!
HollywoodPoker.com definitely put on a show at the WSOP. All of our players posed some serious competition and made HollywoodPoker.com a main attraction at this renowned event.
Congratulations to Bob Goen - the last celebrity standing in our Celebrity Shootout tournament and also the last celebrity standing at the WSOP!
Every one of our players played exceptionally well and reports having a fantastic time. Great playing team!

NEW: World Poker Tour Celebrity Shootout!
Since the response to our first Celebrity Shootout tournament was overwhelmingly positive, we’ve decided to run it again not once, but TWICE!
That’s right! We’re talking a total of $40,000 in cash and WPT prize packages.
It’s all the star-studded, action-packed excitement of our first Celebrity Shootout, but doubled! So, it’s twice as many $100 Celebrity Bounties, twice as many chances to pit your skills against the stars, twice as likely you’ll cash in on the $10,000 guaranteed prize pools and twice as likely you’ll find yourself winning the WPT prize package which includes a seat in the Legends of Poker Tournament at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles.
Looks like things are looking up! In fact, the only thing that’s reduced is your likelihood of finding an excuse not to play.

Player Spotlight: vols23

In this week’s Player Spotlight...vols23!
My player name is vols23.
I played college baseball for the University of Tennessee. I was also a walk-on for the football team and ran back punts and kick offs (not bright). I graduated with a degree in journalism and write children’s books. I have a gifted 14 year old daughter.
My father was a professional gambler and I was taught how to play Texas Hold’em at a very early age. I sat with my father for hours and was totally amazed by the amount of money grown men were willing to wager on one card. I was hooked!
My father said there is only one true style of poker and it’s Texas Hold’em. I can’t play in local games since my father’s reputation precedes even me, but that’s ok. After all, I have friends here at Hollywood Poker and Hollywood Poker has treated me well.
I will be in the WSOP – you can bank on it! As Matt Damon said in ‘Rounders’, “You can’t lose what you don’t put in the middle”.
I hope all you comrades at the table know nothing is ever personal with me at that table. Thirty years ago, my father taught me a great secret. He said “work with your head and not your back”.
Good luck! -vols23

I'm sure all of your readers will agree that either Rounders or The Cincinnatti Kid is the greatest poker movie of all time.
I would like to take these few paragraphs to discuss a poker classic that I thought was worse than going all-in with pocket aces only to get sucked out by runner on 4th and the river. The movie Maverick, starring Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, and James Garner had to be the worst poker movie ever. It is set in the wild west, year unknown, where the hero, Mel Gibson - is constantly running away from the law. James Garner is trying to reach the location of a winner take all 5 card draw poker game aboard a Mississippi Riverboat - buy-in $10,000. Gibson is constantly cracking awful one-line jokes and attempting ultra-non-realistic (is that a word?) fight scenes with hoodlums and Indians that throw phantom punches in his direction. Of course, Gibson defeats his foes, gathering the buy-in along the way where he is also met by Mrs. Annabelle Bransford, who is also on her way to the mega-game. WWE superstar Hulk Hogan could render a better southern accent than the Jodie Foster spoke in this flick: "What ‘cha gonna do when, golly, Hulk Hogan runs wild all over you, brother, ya' hear.” Okay, so Jodie Foster is a little bit of eye-candy in this flick, nice body, easy on the eyes to look at. I'm sure some fellow Hollywood Poker players have the "hots" for her, or at least have fantasized about her naked in a tub. I admit that I do - sorry Julie, even her portrayal of Agent Starling in Silence of the Lambs - she would taste better than the brains Hannibal devoured. But that accent just killed it for me, the entire movie I just wanted her to shut her face! So Bransford and Maverick end up at the final table in this unrealistic poker game, with Maverick dodging bullets and flushes to win the entire tournament. Of course, he has magical powers to mind meld an ace of spades to the top of the deck, he draws one card and boom! - there's the ace of spades to give him a royal flush and win - very predictable. But back to Jodie Foster, I can just picture her naked in front of her computer logged into Hollywood Poker with pocket aces and 9 other Hollywood poker players with "something else in their pockets." Again, Julie, I apologize. Do not ever watch this movie. If you have to, just turn the sound off and watch Jodie Foster!

Vince Van Patten’s Corner
I was very disappointed with my play at the WSOP. I didn’t have a lot of patience and it cost me. My schedule was pretty full, so my strategy was to play tight and fast and hope to get a big chip lead.
I was playing against a young player – very young. He looked like he was all of 13! I tried to bluff him out, but he had a full house and my plan didn’t exactly work.
Still, the WSOP was a tremendous event! It was an absolute circus and much bigger than I thought it would be. It was completely packed full of players!
I managed to see some of my celebrity friends, including James Woods, Toby McGuire and Jennifer Tilly, but didn’t run into Bob Goen – though I heard he did really well.
One of the highlights of the event for me was the Hollywood Poker tent. I got to meet tons of online players who were in the area and stopped by the event. It was great to get to shake hands with some of the people I go head to head with at the tables.
All in all, a great event and an amazing time!
