Player Spotlight: Senatorwu1
When he’s not collecting Celebrity Bounties in the Michael Woods Invitational, Senatorwu1 can be found hanging out in the Lobby and relaxing in the Hollywood Poker Forum.
Like many other people, I was drawn to poker through the increase in televised tournaments. I started playing a couple years ago and after a couple months, I got comfortable with playing for money.
I found out about HP through James on Leno and Bluff magazine. Being a Mac user I was glad to see another option and have been playing here near daily since January.
For me, the best way to keep a bankroll going for me was to finish college with an AAS degree in HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and now I am an apprentice in the local plumbing union.
My favorite HP tale happened after about a month of playing here. I believe I’ve played in every Michael Woods Invitational tournament since I joined and after the first couple, I was frustrated with the lack of celebrities at my tables. Finally, an hour or two into my third try, I crawled my way back from a very short stack. I found myself at a table with Mike Woods, James Woods and Pakrat1969 (your recent spotlight player who happened to be the guest bounty that night).
This was exciting for me for so many reasons: celebrities, bounties and we were nearing the final table. I was able to thank James for one of his movies I enjoyed and Mike for hosting the tournament - also telling him I was about to complain about never seeing bounties!
I proceeded to collect bounties on James, Mike and at the final table, Pakrat1969. I finished in second that night and could hardly sleep. The only problem now is trying to top that every Thursday.
I've met some great people and players here and enjoy my time; it makes the bad beats easier. Thanks everybody!

These are the players in your neighborhood: The people you’ve met playing at HollywoodPoker.com
Moving day - it’s always stressful, frantic and disorganized. However, the reward at the end of the day is a new place to call your own and an opportunity to meet new neighbors and make lasting friendships.
My world of online poker play took on a new face that 8th day of May, 2005. It was the day I unpacked my bags and settled into my new digs at HollywoodPoker.com
Always the quiet one, I took my time and lurked around for a few days, not wanting to disrupt the evident friendships that have developed in the lobby and most likely endured hardships at the poker tables.
Looking around, I liked what I saw. From the friendly people chatting away from all corners of the globe, the celebrity sightings that always cause a ruckus and to the freshly felted red tables at which sat a strange assortment of oddities (where else can you find granny playing heads up against a purple-haired mullet?). It was comfortable here, and I was to now call it home.
Over the course of the next few weeks, I slowly started to join in the chat and found some of the personalities to be quite entertaining! The friendly banter in the lobby would progress to the tables where bragging rights were on the line. No matter the outcome, it was always followed by a “gg” back in the lobby. Of course, that could just a quickly be followed by a “you suck! ;-)”
Closing the blinds before I retire for the night, I peer out the window one last time like a father checking up on his children. Welcome to Hollywood, I’m going to like it here...

Vince Van Patten on the shortest WSOP tournament in history
Over the years, I’ve played in many main events in the WSOP and always had a great time.
About 8 years ago, I thought I’d try to change up my image a bit and so I brought my wife and 2 kids with me to the WSOP. We were planning to stay there a week. You know – tons of fun, the whole family thing.
So, I brought $17,000 in cash with me: $10,000 for my WSOP seat and $7,000 for general spending.
Omaha side-game that night. Long story short, I lost it all. All of it the first night we were there.
I had to go tell my wife (now my ex-wife) and my kids (who were having a great time in the pool) that we had to leave right away because I’d blew all the money and obviously, couldn’t play in the WSOP.
My advice to you: Don’t play high stakes before a big game!
-Vince Van Patten
