Poker World: How to Bust Out Your Celebrity Host
Anyone who's ever been at a table with James Woods knows that you've got to be prepared to protect your bankroll like your eardrums at a Megadeth concert. Of course, there's always a lesson to be learned when playing against a poker great like James - and since our Celebrities are worth some serious cash and could even be worth a seat in the WSOP, it's profitable to take notes. Here are a few tips:
:: Don’t antagonize the Stars. Think of it like poking a bear. This isn’t to say Celebrities are animals, I’m simply pointing out that they are the objects of a lot of attention and it is stressful. If you start smack-talking and drawing attention to yourself, chances are one (or more) is going to make it their personal mission to knock you out – which as far as I know, is NOT the point of playing poker.
:: There are lots of fish in the sea – or Stars at the tables in this case. I know most of us would like to say we took out Mena Suvari, but let’s face it: the chances of any of us taking Mena out in ANY way is pretty slim, so avoid this kind of tunnel vision – it’s the kind of thing to that’ll cripple your game. Just concentrate on your playing and when you do come across Mena or any other of the Famous Faces at Hollywood Poker, you’ll be tight, right and prepared to pit your skills and snag a Celebrity Bounty (and maybe even a seat in the WSOP or a ticket to a $1,000 online private Celebrity Tournament).
:: Get in the games. The Michael Woods Celebrity Invitational, the Hollywood Poker Celebrity Classic and Celebrity Poker Night add up to THREE weekly Celebrity Tournaments - and this is in addition to special Celebrity events like the WSOP Celebrity Shootout. If you want to make the most of the Star experience at Hollywood Poker, make sure you’re in the loop so you can be at the tables.
In the end, playing a great game comes down to being prepared: Knowing yourself, knowing your competition and knowing how to make the most of any situation – and that’s where we come in. Take these tips with you to the tables and use them take down some Stars.

I didn’t actually come here to play poker. I was lured in by 12 sirens known as the Hollywood Poker Girls. When I found out that I would have to play at the site to get a calendar, I was sold. When I found out that the girls actually play at the tables too, I was hooked. The first time I played in the Michael Woods Celebrity Invitational, I saw the beautiful Misty Woods chatting away in the lobby. I didn’t join the conversation. I did manage to sit slack-jawed at my computer for just long enough to miss the first couple hands of my game though. I'm happy to report I'm a little more focused these days.
When I’m not at the tables, I’m working as a firefighter. Much like the way I came to Hollywood Poker, I came to my career after being lured by the movie, Backdraft. Unfortunately, I’m not Kurt Russell or Stephen Baldwin and I’m not guided through my days with a semi-well written script so it’s not quite the same thing – though it is more rewarding then the $7 I spent on a movie ticket and stale popcorn 15 years ago.
I’ll wrap up now, but be sure to say ‘hey’ if you see me at the tables – and if I’m at the tables when one of the Hollywood Poker Girls logs-in, let me know!

Words from Vince Van Patten, WPT Host & Commentator
When you’ve just won a big pot and you’re up a substantial amount of money, the first thing to do is count up how much money you ACTUALLY have then institute what I like to call the 33% rule. Let’s say you win $1000. Make a rule that if you blow back 33% of that profit, you’ll walk away. You’ve got to realize when it’s time to get up and leave. When I’m having a good night, I always make that promise to myself. It’s easy to get caught up and blow back really fast or worse, go into your own pocket. You’re going to have to discipline yourself after a big win and the 33% rule is a good way to do this.
