Now you can get your hands on the poker thriller of the year when you exchange your Poker Points for The Picasso Flop – an edge-of-your-seat murder mystery written by our very own Celebrity Player, Vince Van Patten and acclaimed mystery writer, Robert J. Randisi.
The Picasso Flop has been hailed as a riveting whodunit, highlighted by brilliantly orchestrated game scenes and enhanced with some good old fashioned romance.
Poker guru, Jimmy Spain, is stunned by the changes to the poker world after having spent a decade in jail on a manslaughter conviction. Hold 'em is all over TV and the Internet with hundreds playing in tournaments everywhere, at all hours of the day. One of Jimmy’s prison friends, Harold Landrigan, hires Jimmy to secretly mentor his daughter Kat, who dreams of making it big in the poker world. In order to meet Kat and make the mentoring seem like her idea, Jimmy enters the Five Diamond World Poker Classic in which Kat is a participant. When someone murders star Tim Bennett, leaving behind ‘The Picasso Flop’ (a jack, a queen and a king) Kat names Jimmy as her alibi. As others are killed with the same calling cards left at the scene, Las Vegas Police Detective Cooper asks Jimmy, the son of a cop, to conduct a supplemental insider investigation.
The Picasso Flop has got all the twists, turns and constant suspense that poker players love – and it’s only a click away.

Not only does Celebrity Player Mena Suvari clean up at the tables, she’ll also be cleaning up the undead in the film, Day of the Dead. Mena plays the character of Sarah in this remake of George A. Romero’s classic zombie film of the same name.
This spine-tingling thriller centers on a group of scientists, military personnel and civilians who battle for their lives against a plague of flesh eating ghouls. They take shelter in a military bunker when faced with the zombies, only to find something far more dangerous waiting for them inside.
Day of the Dead is directed by Steve Miner and written by Jeffrey Reddick. It’s scheduled for release later on this year. In the meantime, you can catch Mena at HollywoodPoker in tournaments like the Michael Woods Celebrity Invitational, the HollywoodPoker Celebrity Classic and Canadian Poker Night. All of these events guarantee Celebrity presence and if you knock them out, you’ll score a bounty for up to $2,500!

Sean Asks:
I’ve just started playing very low limit, mostly stt's and mtt's. I was wondering if you have any general advice for tournament play?
Coach Replies:
First, be willing to play for all your chips and don’t try and “fold” your way to the money, especially in an MTT. Usually, more than half the prize pool is paid to the top 4 spots or so. This means it’s worth your while to gamble and take coin-flips rather than trying to outlast your opponents. It’s riskier, but if it enables you to make it to the final table and the big payouts even rarely, it’ll be worth it.
Secondly, as the blinds are raised, put less emphasis on playing hands with high implied odds (such as small pocket pairs and suited connectors) and instead focus on good pairs and high cards. You’ll want to play hands with higher card strength and fold speculative hands to raises.
Finally, be wary of the blind structure. As those blinds get higher, you should be looking to steal pots to build your stack. Be first into the pot and play position as much as your cards. Stealing becomes less important if you’ve already been raised and means you should look to fold weak hands or push against aggressive players on a coin-flip. Don’t play tighter players unless you have a monster.
This is good strategy overall, but it becomes more important in tournament settings. Good luck!
-Coach.
