Last week’s tourney, Celebrity Poker Night with Dule Hill, was one of the most memorable events to date, boasting a record Celebrity turnout as well as stellar host. Dule proved that he is as multi-faceted at the tables as he is in his performance career, managing to chat in the tournament lobby and at his own table all the while playing a solid game where ultimately he placed 4th overall. He also revealed the source of his poker origins, admitting that he got serious about poker when fellow Hollywood Poker Celebrity Player, Josh Malina asked him to appear on his show, Celebrity Poker Showdown. Dule was far from the only Celebrity at the tables though. In fact, we had one of the most impressive Celebrity turnouts to date. Dule was joined by Famous Faces like Donnie Wahlberg, Tom McGowan, Erik Palladino and Ronny Cox.

Player Spotlight: RioBueno!
Want your chance in the Spotlight? Simply e-mail me at hollay@hollywoodpoker.com. If you’re chosen for the week’s Player Spotlight, you’ll win Hollywood Poker gear!
In this week’s Spotlight, meet RioBueno!
My player name is RioBueno because the river is always good to me and I am never afraid to bet BIG hoping for a lucky river card. I hit them all the time! I win gobs of money because people just do not believe the cards I play. My most memorable hand was a 5-3 off-suit.
The flop was a rainbow A-K-2.
The poor sucker behind me had two pair A2 and another pathetic loser had K-K for a set of K’s. I was in first position so I checked to trap these two yahoos. Opponents who are overconfident are my bread and butter. The guy with 2 pair bet the pot and the idiot with a set of K’s just called so I did too.
The turn was a 6 for a board of A-K-2-6
This set me up perfectly for the gut shot draw. I checked again and dumbo bet the pot and dumber raised. I just called to keep the two pair guy from folding. He raised all-in and we both called all-in.
Predictably, the river was a 4 which gave me the straight and I can still hear those guys singing the blues. When will they ever learn?!
Me personally: I live by myself in a trailer in the Nevada desert with no water or electricity and run my computer with a bicycle driven generator. My pet rattler is named Ol’ Shakey. I am a heavy drinker which doesn’t help, but have never been married for some reason. I advertise for wives all the time. Sure, I don’t exactly look like Brad Pitt, but my standards are low and I would like to meet someone else with low standards who doesn’t mind carrying well-water and could give me a haircut every now and then. If they can pedal a bicycle or have some extra cash, that would be a plus.
I would like to win some Hollywood Poker gear so I can show off when I go to town. That is why I am telling this true story.
See you at the tables.
~RioBueno

Write to Win: Open Season
Does this sound familar to you? WHY would he/she call or bet ALL IN with crap cards? Why this, or why that? Uh huh. Well, I will admit I whine or curse too (sshhh). One day I decided I was gonna just quit whinning and use those Poker Point Freerolls as a practicing/learning target. As usual, I experienced bad beats etc, but instead of whinning, I vented out my frustrations by writing down little notes, some are horrible though, in the "players note box". I even got them classified or muted! Phew - what a relief! Try this my friends and it will reduce your stress level and there will certainly be less chat banning. LOL.
I gain tremendous experience from these freerolls. I've learnt how to read other player's playing patterns, and this has improved my poker playing a whole bunch. Besides that, my tolerance level has improved, as I've learnt to accept the fact that not everyone is the same and hence there will always be a difference in playing at a table. Thanks Hollywood Poker for these freerolls!
Cheers!

Words from Vince Van Patten, WPT Host and Commentator
I had an off week from the WPT, so I stayed at home in LA. I played in a home game at a friend’s house. Who was there but the great tennis champ, Peter Sampras. Yes, Pete loves poker now and is good at it too. No limit of course.
You know, even though I played the professional tennis circuit myself, (10 years in fact – got to be in the top 25 in the world) I had never run across Pete before. I retired as soon as he was coming on. Anyway, it was a pleasure to meet him and play poker with him. He really is a great guy. It was a nice game - very social and we got to talking about tennis. I brought up John McEnroe, one of my peers, who at 48 had just gone out and won a big doubles tournament. He nodded his approval and I went on to say that I felt McEnroe could still be in the top 100 in men’s singles if he so desired. Pete shook his head in disbelief and said, “No way, Vince.” I disagreed and persisted that he could be due to the fact that in team tennis he played Roddick real close. He was an all-time great, etc. Pete finally came over the top with his answer: “Vince, you know poker. Stick to it. You don’t know tennis.” We all laughed.
A little later and a few more check-raises against Pete, Pete went on to tell us he’s practicing tennis again, getting ready for exhibitions and would I like to practice sometime. I said I haven’t picked up a racket in 5 years, but if he would spot me the alleys and one serve, I would play him tomorrow for $1,000 a set. The whole table roared with laughter and Pete looked taken aback. Then he smiled, looking intrigued. “I’ll have to think about that”, he said thoughtfully. I smiled and nodded and then exclaimed, “Think about it?! Pete, you’re the greatest player that’s ever played the game! You’ve got 14 Grand Slam single titles and years on me.” And then it just blurted out: “Guess who doesn’t know tennis now!” But Pete just chuckled. The game ended at 12 and I still didn’t get an answer. Talk about bluffing the big stack.
Well, next week I’m off to Miami. Hollywood Poker is endorsing an IRL race car with Troy Hanson driving it. I’ve been honored to be asked to wave the green flag at the beginning of the race. Poker’s been good to me and I hope it’s also been good to everyone else on the site.
Until next time, stay out of my pots!
