In this week’s Spotlight, meet BigAce70!

I am BigAce70 and have been playing on the Hollywood Poker site for a few months now.  I have played poker for almost 20 years now and really enjoy playing with everyone on this site.
 
I am 36 years old and own my own construction company.  I am married with three children ages 10, 8, and 1 year.  My wife likes to watch me play and interjects advice I don't always take.  I consider myself to be a self-made man that strives to be the best at whatever I do.
 
In poker, I don't have a particular style of play, I tend to adapt to the table play.  I would like to think that my competitiveness makes me a dangerous opponent.
 
As many of you know, I like to thank players in advance for the "donations" to my stack.  I think it is only right to be as polite as possible at the table.  I would like to thank all my friends that I have made on this site for accepting me in to the Hollywood Poker Family. 
 
I live outside of Lexington Kentucky where horse racing and basketball are the sports of choice.  For me, it's poker.
 
For all of you who don't know me yet, or have played at the tables with me, don't always think that a check is a check, or a bet is a bet.  BigAce70 might be the last name you see right next to, "You finished in this place".

Write to Win: Casino Vacations!

On the 1st of January 2005 my husband and I arrived in Las Vegas on vacation. We checked into the Hilton, and guess what? We have just celebrated one year of blissful living in the most exciting city on the planet.

In one year I have lost and won, laughed and cried and thoroughly enjoyed becoming the "Poker Diva" of the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas. I have had straight flushes and one Royal Flush! I have folded or ‘holded’ at the wrong time. I have been heads up with the big boys and loved every moment of it. Paul (my husband) and I play there regularly. They know us by name and warmly welcome us when we enter the poker room.

The highlight of the vacation was the World Series of Poker - watching the big guns was amazing. I was in training to be the next Annie Duke. I even sported the t-shirt WWAD (What Would Annie Do?).

This vacation has turned into a good one, but unfortunately all good things come to an end, so we move on at the end of the month.

Nothing is perfect but this place comes real close.

Words from Vince Van Patten, WPT Host and Commentator

Being a professional tennis player taught me that losing my cool would cost me the match 95% of the time. When it comes to competition, I learned to try to keep my emotions under control early on.  If you go on-tilt, you’re probably going to lose, take the hit and be another bad beat story.

At the poker table, you’re really playing against yourself – that’s what you’ve got to control. You’re your own responsibility. In then end, we all get the same cards and the same odds. In poker, it’s the people who continually stay cool that are going to win.

Sure, I’ve lost at the tables and I’ve felt bad about it afterwards.  I’ve wondered what I did wrong and I’ve questioned myself, but we’re all human and we’re going to lose now and then, but winners will keep their cool. In a tough situation you just have to ask yourself: Do I want to be a winner?
