Today is the day!
The Main Event of the World Series of Poker for 2006 begins today at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. It is the largest field of entrants ever gathered for a single live poker event. The main event itself, the $10,000 No-Limit Texas Hold'Em Championship has a prize of more than $10.8 million.
This year, there is a record field of more than 8,000 players competing in the myriad of events available during the World Series of Poker. It guarantees a total prize pool that approaches $150 million. Last year, 5,619 players entered the World Series of Poker Main Event. The champ was Joseph Hachem, who won $7.5 million.
The final table of the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event takes place on August 10th.
