Jeff Cabanillas
Calling the recent $5,000 No Limit Hold'em WSOP event a David versus Goliath match up may be an understatement. At the end of the poker tournament it was Phil Hellmuth, one of poker's elite going for his tenth World Series of Poker bracelet against Jeff Cabanillas, a 22-year-old novice playing in his first live tournament.
Action was intense throughout the day and the audience was full of fans and professional poker players, all to watch Phil Hellmuth and his attempt at a record 10 WSOP bracelets. At first the chip counts were fairly even going into the heads-up match, but Phil Hellmuth quickly gained a 2-to-1 lead over Jeff Cabanillas. The spectators slowly watched Phil Hellmuth's attempt at wining his tenth bracelet slip away as his stack got smaller and Jeff Cabanillas' got bigger. The recent $5,000 No Limit Hold'em WSOP tournament eventually ended with Jeff Cabanillas beating out the poker legend with a flush.
"I would pay a million dollars to win that bracelet," Phil Hellmuth said, winning $423,893 for his runner-up finish. But that's the way the game's played. Jeff Cabanillas celebrated with friends and family after winning his first World Series of Poker bracelet and the $818,546 that came with it.
