It was to be Jamie Gold’s night; after achieving a sizeable chip lead on the way to the final table, he went on to win the World Series of Poker Championship and take home $12 Million. It took two weeks of intense play, a Herculean task for any Poker player – but Jamie Gold pulled through, and will be the Poker Ambassador for the next year. This year, it was Joe Hachem’s honor to announce “Shuffle up and deal.” Next year, the pleasure will be Jamie Gold’s. Paul Wasicka finished 2nd, beating out Michael Binger and Allen Cunningham, who placed 3rd and 4th respectively. Cunningham’s exit came when his pocket 10s lost out to Jamie Gold’s K-J. Gold ended up flopping a King, meaning Cunningham was to take home a $3,628,513 paycheck. Binger lost out when Gold got lucky; Binger flopped top pair, but Gold went all-in on an outside straight draw. His 3-4 drew out a 7 on the turn to compliment the board of 10-6-5, making his straight and sending Binger home with $4,123,310. Jamie Gold’s winning hand was Q-9. He limped in as Wasicka checked at the big blind with pocket 10s. The flop was Q-8-5. Wasicka bet 1.5m, prompting Gold to push all his chips into the fray. Wasicka’s call didn’t pay off, meaning he would finish 2nd and take home $6,102,499. The final results were 1: Jamie Gold $12,000,000 2: Paul Wasicka $6,102,499 3: Michael Binger $4,123,310 4: Allen Cunningham $3,628,513 5: Rhett Butler $3,216,182 6: Richard Lee 2,803,851 7: Doug Kim $2,391,520 8: Erik Friberg $1,979,189 9: Dan Nassif $1,566,858. Gold said "I couldn't have done this without the support of the people in my life. I'm a very needy person. And they helped me out a lot over the last few days getting me water and massages and blueberries." Hollywood Poker congratulates Jamie Gold on his 2006 World Series of Poker bracelet!
