Brittani Simberg
Wanting a son, but faced with the prospect of an only child who also happened to be female, my father decided to go with it. And so I was taught that college football is the greatest sport to have ever graced the planet and excelling at poker is mandatory for any sentient being.
Thursday nights, I used to sit on Dad's lap when the Animals (as my mother and I affectionately called them) came to play. I would throw in the chips on Dad's turn. They played dealer's choice - five card stud, deuces wild, high chicago - all those crazy games favored by social players the world over. I watched, learned and eventually, at age 19 (much less with the ID-ing in the casinos a few years ago), sat down at a $1-$5 7 card stud table at the MGM Grand.
After a few years of stud, as Hold 'Em started to take over as the premiere game, I switched over and taught Dad as well. I graduated from limit to no-limit as well. I primarily play tournaments now, occasionally live and almost every day online. I am a student of the game, hopefully improving with every hand. Born and raised in Miami Beach, FL, now living in Los Angeles, fighting my way through the celluloid jungle as an independent writer/director. Feature film director or professional poker player... I guess we'll see which train comes in first.
