Everyone who's into racing knows about Nascar, and Indy Racing... but there's a new breed of "luxury lifestyle" automative rallies and it's called the "Bullrun".
The is a yearly event, put together with fast and expensive cars and celebrity drivers. They go on a seven day romp across the United States, partying and enjoying the speed, eating at fine restaurants and staying at the best hotels.
These "bullrunners" make their way through checkpoints from one coast to another - New York to Los Angeles. The event takes place over one blistering fast week – July 22nd to 28th. Some of the drivers in the event include Mario Andretti, Dennis Rodman, and Hayden Christensen. With A-list celebrities like this, entry is by invitation only, though everyone can watch.
There is a lot of debate around the legality of the Bullrun, and in fact, many drivers have been stopped or pulled over by local or state police during their run. Most of the time, the driver is simply escorted to their destination (which they have only discovered earlier that day) by the police, or given a ticket. While this may be the central controversy to the event, it is partly this illegality that makes it so entertaining, and what gives the rally it's edge.
This year's bullrun will be turned into a 10 part mini-series for Spike TV, to be aired in 2007.
