Day 1: Hollywood Poker/Team Mosler Drivers: Troy Hanson, Todd Wagner Route: New York City, Pocono Raceway, Toronto Hollywood Poker / Team Molser starting 2nd on the Bullrun grid was poised to make their presence felt early on. Lining up next to racing legend Mario Andretti was a dream come true for driver Troy Hanson. "It's an amazing sight to see 110 exotic cars, lined up in the middle of the Times Square and have the opportunity to start next to "the Man" (Andretti) is truly amazing. This is just the beginning of a 7 day, 3000 mile adventure." The green flagged dropped at 10:00 EST and the cars were off.
Hanson followed Andretti out of the city, as they headed towards Pocono Raceway. "I stayed on his bumper for the first 40 minutes. Andretti is from Pocono, so who better to know the route."
But luck wasn't on Team Mosler's side, as they ran out of gas shortly into the rally. "The fuel gauge had not been configured, Hanson said, and we ran out of fuel. Sidelined for over an hour, their hopes of having a strong placing in this first stage seemed impossible. Then a State Patrol unit arrived on the scene. When he recognized the IRL logo on the Mosler and IRL / IPS driver Troy Hanson, the officer proceeded to get the team fuel and gave them a high speed escort directly to the state line, some 64 mile away.
"We can't mention the name of the officer or the State / County he patrolled, but he saved the day. At an average of 110 mph, we made up that time and then some. We took some video, which we'll post sometime in the near future." Making their way to Pocono for a few Hot Laps before the Nascar crowd, the team of Hanson and Todd Wagner received information for their next checkpoint across the border in Toronto, Canada. Blazing a trail to the into Canada, they arrived at the Toronto Hilton for the first of many amazing nights.
