From Universal and Dreamworks comes a powerful and emotionally soaring drama about two men, Steve and Nathaniel, who have a chance encounter on a street corner in downtown Los Angeles that leads to the blossoming of an extraordinary friendship. One man is a journalist looking for a new story to write and the other a music genius on skid row. More than that, 'The Soloist' is also a story about the redemptive power of music.
The feature drama is based on a true story penned by Steve Lopez that chronicles how he, a successful, award-winning columnist, and Nathaniel Anthony Ayers, a schizophrenic former classical music prodigy who is now homeless, living and playing his violin on the streets of LA, meet and transform each other's lives. "The Soloist" is directed by Joe Wright from a screen play by Oscar nominee Susannah Grant (Erin Brokovich) based on Lopez' book The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music published in May 2008.
In 'The Soloist' Michael plays Adam Crane, Los Angeles Philharmonic's director of public relations. He joins a stellar cast comprising Oscar winner Jamie Foxx (Dreamgirls) playing the role of down struck Juliard trained violinist Nathaniel, Oscar nominees Robert Downey Junior (Iron Man) as journalist Steve Lopez and Catherine Keener (The 40 Year Old Virgin), together with Stephen Root (No Country for Old Men), Tom Hollander (Valkyrie) and others in this touching drama.
