Shark may not be the first legal drama to make its way to television, but there is definitely something about Shark that makes it stick out from the rest. The legal drama made its debut last night on CBS and stars Hollywood Poker’s own celebrity poker player James "The Shark" Woods. It certainly did not take long to get caught up in Shark and Wood’s character, Sebastian Stark.
Sebastian Stark finds himself unable to maintain his position as a defense attorney after a client he helped stay out of jail kills his girlfriend. After a break, Stark is offered a job working for the other side; the Los Angeles DA. Stark’s new job comes with a D.A who carries a grudge from their previous battles in the courtroom fence as well as a team of young, inexperienced prosecutors.
James Woods did a great job in Shark’s pilot episode; the action and dialogue was very quick and smart. The show did a great job at giving viewers a detailed look into the character of Sebastian Stark and the mid-life crisis he was going through during the show. In addition to putting the character of Sebastian Stark under the television microscope, the show really gave viewers a preview on some of the show’s supporting characters.
Shark uses a style that works for James Woods; the show combines elements of subtle comedy with the style that a courtroom drama provides. When compared to other legal dramas, Shark is different enough to stand out from the pack and if the smart writing and excellent acting continues, Shark could be a hit for years.
