Just finished hosting the Foxwoods Poker Classic for the World Poker Tour. It was another great event in the biggest casino in the world in Foxwoods, Connecticut. 431 started the main event and at least 108 name star players were there. Would you believe not one of them made the final table? This game is so wide open folks – I’m convinced anyone can win. That’s the beauty of it: Anyone can become a star if they get lucky.
Anyway, I decided to drive from Boston Logan Airport to Foxwoods, Connecticut; about an hour and a half drive. I rented a car. I like to drive myself and enjoyed a nice ride through New England on a spring day. We stopped off in an old sea town called Mystic, Connecticut. It gained some popularity years back when Julia Roberts did a movie about the town called Mystic Pizza. The town was interesting. Very beautiful and quaint. I had the clam chowder at one of the small restaurants and took it all in. By the way, I must have come across at least 3 pizza restaurants that had the huge neon sign saying “Mystic Pizza”, as if they were the original one from the movie. Who knows?
Another good thing happened to me along this trip: I got Sirius Radio in my car. First timer, yes. I’m a radio freak, always have been. I like talk radio and good music without a lot of commercials. This thing has got it all. I’m not plugging, friends, I just really enjoyed it and now I’m hooked.
Met up with poker superstar, Barry Greenstein a couple weeks back and he very graciously gave me his new poker book, Ace on the River. I read it on the plane going home and it is fantastic. One of the best poker books ever – definitely worth it. Well, back to LA, then Vegas. Our WPT Championship at Bellagio starts up this week. ‘Til next time, play loose and stay out of my pots. ~ Vince Van Patten
