rabbit hunting
- Scanning through the undealt deck of cards.
ragged
- A flop that doesn’t appear to help anybody very much.
rail
- The rim of a poker table or a barrier outside a poker arena.
railbird
- Someone who loiters around poker tables watching or waiting to get in.
raise
- To increase the previous bet.
raise blind
- To raise without looking at one’s cards.
- A forced raise.
rake
- Chips collected from the pot by the cardroom as compensation for hosting.
rank
- The respective value of each card.
rap
- When a player knocks on the table to indicate that s/he has checked.
rat holing
- The illegal act of taking chips off a table and putting them elsewhere.
razz
- Seven Card Stud where the lowest five cards win the pot.
re-buy
- The amount of money a player adds chips to her/his stack in tournaments.
re-rise
- The act of raising a raised bet.
ribbon clerk
ring game
- A live game that is not a tournament.
river
- The last card given in all games.
rock
rolled up
- In seven-card stud, being dealt three of a kind in the first three cards.
rotation
- Clockwise movement in direction of the dealer.
round of play
- The action sequence in which every player deals a poker hand.
Royal Flush
- An ace high straight (A-K-Q-J-10) of the same suit. Best possible hand.
run
- A straight.
- Several good hands after one another; a rush.
run a pot
- Winning a hand by bluffing throughout a hand, implying more than one bet.

- When the last two cards on the board are a pair.
