paint cards
- Kings, queens and jacks; face cards.
pair
- Two cards of the same face or number value.
pass
passive
- An opponent who rarely raises – as opposed to aggressive.
pat
- Not drawing any cards in a draw card game.
pay station
- A game where players can bet as much as they like on any round of betting.
pegging
- A cheater’s techniques to mark cards with a device (ex. a fingernail).
penny ante

- To get called when you’re bluffing.

- An inexperienced and/or easy player.
Pineapple Hold’em
- A hold’em variation involving three hole cards and discarding one.
pips
- The spots or marks on the face of a card.
play back
- To raise or re-raise another player’s bet.
play hand
- To bet aggressively on a hand.
play over
- To play in a seat when it’s occupant is away.
played card
- A card dealt into a hand.
pocket
- The down cards or hole cards.
pocket rockets
- A pair of aces in the pocket or hole.
point
position
- Where a player is seated in relation to the dealer.
post
- Placing your chips in the pot.
pot
- The money or chips in the center of a table that players try to win.
pot limit
- This is a game where the maximum bet can equal the pot.
preflop
- Pertaining to the bet or situation before the flop.
premium hands

- Side bets between players that are not related to the outcome of the hand.
puppy feet/pups
- A club flush or just a suit of clubs.

putting on the heat
- To bet aggressively, thereby putting pressure on the other players.
